A Sea of Girls' Tears

“What sea has no shores?”
“A sea of girls’ tears.”*
Tender, fragile, delicate—and at the same time resilient. Tears possess a peculiar power: they are both weapon and vulnerability, strength and weakness. In times of social upheaval, violence and aggression, systemic lies and seductive pretence, girls’ tears become a place where resilience and persistence are concealed.
Not to be flawless. Not to be obedient. Not to become anyone’s template. To cry when there are no other arguments left; to cry until those arguments emerge, undeniable and impossible to dismiss. Girls’ tears remain visible even after girls themselves have rejected them as an atavism.
The exhibition evokes the language of the boudoir—of what is hidden, intimate, and sexual—while remaining acutely social. A single tear can conceal almost anything. And within this sea of girls’ tears, no two are ever the same.
